Chris Martin Delivered A Heartfelt Rendition Of ‘Til Kingdom Come’ At Beau Biden’s Funeral

Chris Martin delivered a moving performance at the funeral of Beau Biden, 46, on Saturday. The former attorney general for the state of Delaware (and Vice President Joe Biden’s eldest son) was laid to rest after battling brain cancer. The funeral capped off three days of public mourning with a two-hour service at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wilmington.

Martin reportedly offered to perform after hearing Beau was a fan of Coldplay’s tunes. Martin performed an acoustic version of “Til Kingdom Come,” a song from Coldplay’s 2005 X&Y album. The lyrics include “For you, I’d wait ’till kingdom come / Until my day, my day is done / And say, you’ll come and set me free / Just say, you’ll wait, you’ll wait for me.” Martin’s voice cracked with emotion during the bridge.

President Obama also choked up while delivering a 25-minute eulogy. He called Beau a “man of character” who “has left a gaping void in the world.” Obama spoke of his late friend, an Iraqi war veteran, as a man who “made you want to be a better daughter or son or a better brother or sister. And better at your job, a better soldier. He made you want to be a better person.”

Other attendees at the funeral included Bill and Hillary Clinton. Biden leaves behind a wife, Hallie, and their two children, Natalie and Hunter.
