Did Miley Cyrus Just Break Ground In The Public Dialogue About Sexuality?

The cover story for Paper’s Summer Music Issue came out today, which, as we mentioned yesterday, features Miley Cyrus posing naked with her pet pig Bubba Sue on the front. In addition to posing fully nude for the accompanying photo shoot (as you can see in the above censored image), Miley talked at length about her creative process and partying philosophy, as well as a few of the causes she vehemently believes in.

However, the singer also dropped this not insignificant bombshell regarding her sexuality:

“I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult — anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me,” she says. “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.” She says she’s had romantic entanglements with women that were just as serious as the ones (Liam Hemsworth, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Nick Jonas) that ended up in Us Weekly. “I’ve had that,” she admits. “But people never really looked at it, and I never brought it into the spotlight.”

She also claims in the interview that, at 14, she told her mother that “she loves women like she loves boys,” and that her mother has since accepted her. Given how open Miley is about every other aspect of her life, it’s odd that she’s chosen to wait as long as she has to reveal something as major as this.
