Titus Andronicus, a band that means a lot to a lot of people, released a 29-song punk rock opera called The Most Lamentable Tragedy. To celebrate, the band did a five-night run at Brooklyn venue Shea Stadium.

The final show was last night and coincided with lead singer Patrick Stickles‘ 30th birthday. They celebrated with a massive set (24 songs!) that included nine covers and help from Craig Finn of The Hold Steady and Ted Leo.

TA covered The Replacements’ “Bastards of Young” with Finn, Billy Joel’s “You May Be Right” and The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” among others.

My go-to quick descriptor of the band for folks who have never heard them is “punk Springsteen,” so I find it extra fitting that they threw in “Dancing in the Dark” and “Badlands.” And, of course, there’s only one way to wrap a set this epic, G.D. “Free Bird.”
