The Foo Fighters Fan Who Cried Onstage Had A Pretty Good Reason For It

By now, almost everyone has seen the video of Foo Fighters performing in Denver and consoling a very emotional fan named Anthony by inviting him up to sing “My Hero.” While most of us thought the reason why the mystery guy was crying was maybe he was a bit in his feelings after one drink too many, he (or someone impersonating him for some reason) called into local rock station KBCO to explain exactly what happened that day. And the reason for the tears may even give you a few:

“My mom died about six months ago, and I’d just got back from Europe putting her in her crypt, and he just started singing it and I just got all emo. What I hated is he was like, “Oh he’s a drunk guy.” I was dead sober. I don’t drink. You know, I might have had a little Colorado green, but I don’t drink.”

I don’t know if enjoying a little “green” is exactly sober, but still, you can’t blame him there. After he got on stage to ask what verse they were singing, Anthony told Dave Grohl the whole story:

“We chatted, I told him what was going down. What a cool man he was. Just a super cool dude.”

Losing a parent is one of the hardest pains you can ever feel, so there’s no shame in crying thinking of his mom’s memory. Especially with a great song like “My Hero” ringing throughout a huge amphitheater. You can add this instance to many of the several examples of why Dave Grohl is one of rock’s good guys.
