Lemmy From Motorhead Had To Stop A Show After Three Songs Because Of His Health

Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister is known for a hard living, rock and roll lifestyle. However, not even hard rock legends are impervious to the ravages of age and a bottle of Jack Daniels a day for decades. On Tuesday, Lemmy had to cut a Motorhead show in Austin, Texas short due to his health.

After three songs, a noticeably fatigued Lemmy simply stated “I can’t do it.” Later, after he and the band had left the stage, he returned to explain further, “You are one of the best gigs in America, and I would love to play for you, but I can’t… So please accept my apologies. Next time, all right?” This is not a new thing for Lemmy. He recently had to cut a show in Salt Lake City short due to breathing issues, and a show in Denver was cancelled altogether due to fears of how the high altitude would impact his breathing.

Lemmy is 69 now, and it’s a hard 69, and he’s had some real health issues in recent years. At this point, it seems reasonable to think that Lemmy’s touring days may be behind him, or at least they will need to be cut back severely. However, do not shed a tear for Lemmy. As he explained in an interview with Kerrang!, “I’ve had some health scares, and I’ve had to really cut back on smoking and drinking and whatever. But it is what it is. I’ve had a good life, a good run. I do what I do still. I’m sure I’ll die on the road, one way or another.” Rock and roll until the very end.
