Rihanna Candidly Explained Why She’s Not In Taylor Swift’s #Squad And Why Her New Album Is Taking Forever

Sorry, Swifties, but don’t expect to see Rihanna rocking out with Taylor Swift on her 1989 tour like all the other celebrities lending their coolness for T-Swizzle to co-opt. That’s because the country star-turned-pop star is a little too vanilla for music’s leading bad gal.

Rihanna is currently NME‘s cover girl, and, as always, she’s being brutally honest in the interview portion of the magazine. While everyone from Alanis Morissette to Fetty Wap to Mariska Hargitay to Wiz Khalifa to Karlie Kloss to a list of random names stitched together have all joined Taylor on tour, the “B*tch Betta Have My Money” singer says she’s too edgy for America’s Sweetheart and her Swifties, and that linking up just wouldn’t be an authentic match. “I just don’t think it makes sense,” the 27-year-old Bajan beauty explained. “I don’t think our brands are the same. I don’t think they match. I don’t think our audiences are the same. In my mind, she’s a role model. I’m not.”

Rihanna hates being called a role model, as noted in a 2014 USA Today interview, where she shunned the label. Back then, Rih revealed, “I don’t like to use that word because people have their own opinion on what that means to them. I can’t really say I’m a role model. I’m not perfect. I’m not trying to sell that.”

Meanwhile, the Rihanna Navy will have to wait even longer for her oft-delayed eighth studio album, R8. The “FourFiveSeconds” singer says the album is still a work in progress. “It’s not done. To me, it’s never done until it’s done, until the final moment,” Rih said. “I have so many songs I love, and they’re so different that it’s hard to actually put them all on the same album.”

Looks like R8 is shaping up to be Detox while Rihanna remains focused on her sock line, sneaker line and perfume line.
