Adele Is More Popular Than ‘Star Wars’

Everyone lost their minds last Friday when Adele gifted the world with her comeback single, “Hello.” There was a lot of crying and the world was right again. Since everyone was watching the video on repeat to remind themselves that they still know how to feel, the moody music video was sure to break some records. Oh boy, did it ever, accumulating more than 50 million views in the first 48 hours.

On top of blowing away all the other artists at the top, Adele also took on the Knights of Ren and won: According to NME, while the newly released Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer peaked at 1.2 million streams per hour, Adele reached up to 1.6 million.

While there is still nearly a month until the release of 25, it is already a smash hit. Apple reports that “Hello” is already at #1 on the iTunes charts in 102 countries, and the album is in the top 10 of nine countries (including the U.S. and UK) despite being a pre-order. Adele had stated in an interview with Carson Daly that she had considered quitting after 21 and going out on top. If these numbers continue to grow (and they definitely will), she hasn’t even begun to reach the top.
