New Blink-182 music will be on the way soon with an album to possibly follow, according to drummer Travis Barker. In an interview with NME, the drummer said that the band has recorded “four or five songs” with Alkaline Trio vocalist Matt Skiba. Skiba joined the group after former Blink frontman, Tom DeLonge, left the group. “Matt’s killing it. He’s fun to play with and write with,” Barker said of the current writing sessions the new-look group is having. “We’re just getting started, but I think we’ve got like four or five songs right now that I’m really, really happy with.”

When asked about the sound of the new music, Barker said, “They sound different, but still the same. Obviously, it’s Matt Skiba singing, so there’s hints of Alkaline Trio… mixed with my drumming and Mark’s voice and stuff. It’s really cool, and I really love what we’ve done so far.” Continuing on about the possibility of a new album, Barker confirmed that, “the goal is to come up with a new album,” but also admitted that there is no pressure or deadlines that the group has to meet. “[We just] write a bunch of songs, and when we feel there’s an album ready, there’s an album ready.”

Blink-182 fans have to be very happy to hear the news that new music is on the way. The controversy from this year regarding the departure of DeLonge has been the headline instead of the music. The band and their former lead vocalist have gone back and forth trading statements about the current state of the band, including DeLonge thinking he is not done with the group. As the new trio continues to form a sound on the way to an album, the music will begin to speak louder than any of their individual members can.
