Tom Hiddleston Performed An Entire Concert As Hank Williams In Nashville

When John C. Reilly was promoting the criminally underrated Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, he toured the country as Dewey, playing “Take My Hand” and “Beautiful Ride,” and not overdosing on reefer. It was a clever way of advertising a movie, and I assume Tom Hiddleston was inspired by Da God Dewey when he decided to play a concert in Nashville as Hank Williams.

The Crimson Peak star plays the country legend in the upcoming biopic I Saw the Light, which was recently moved from a release date of Nov. 28, in the heart of Oscar season, to next March. That’s not a good sign, and the movie received lukewarm reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival. The reception was due in part to Hiddleston’s performance — he looks the part, but his singing style is too theatrical; there’s no bitter sadness in his voice. Hank joked around, but don’t mistake witty irony for jubilance.

Have a listen to Loki playing “Hey, Good Lookin’,” “Why Don’t You Love Me Like You Used to Do,” and “Move It on Over” in Nashville over the weekend.
