Apparently, we don’t even have to wait until Halloween to get a story about foolish white kids dressing up in blackface at a costume party.

On Tuesday night, the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Alpha Phi sorority at UCLA held a mixer called a “Kanye Western,” which apparently featured attendees dressing up like either Kanye West or members of the Kardashian family. This wouldn’t be so terrible except for the way they went about doing it; a report from UCLA’s student paper, The Daily Bruin, states that at the party several students had their faces covered in charcoal.

A Twitter user screen-shot a now-deleted Instagram picture from the party.

Several more pictures appear in the Daily Bruin article. As one might expect, UCLA’s black students are extremely unhappy about this. In response, a movement called #BlackBruinsMatter has developed a presence on social media:

This would all be bad enough as it is, but exacerbating the situation is the fact that it took place during UCLA’s welcome week for students. Whoops.
