Before making their emotional return to the stage, U2 singer Bono introduced Eagles Of Death Metal with this simple message: “They were robbed of their stage, so we would like to offer them ours.”

With this being Eagles Of Death Metal’s first performance since the horrific attacks, it was obviously very emotional. After days of swirling rumors, the group joined U2 for a performance of Patti Smith’s “People Have the Power,” which Smith helped the Irish rockers on the night before. If having EODM up on stage wasn’t special enough, U2 let them take over the stage to perform one of their own songs, “I Love You All The Time,” to the 20,000 in attendance. The concert is part of U2’s HBO special, iNNONCENCE ion eXPERIENCE, which will air Monday night at 9 p.m. ET, after being postponed following the attacks.

U2 has been very supportive of EODM by offering the group the use of their plane and Bono even purchasing new phones for the band, following the frightening moments after the tragedy at Bataclan. It’s hopefully a cathartic thing for the group who has been through so much to finally return to what they do best.
