In a matter of hours this VMAs adjacent tidbit will become academic, but for now? It’s something worth getting into an excited froth over. Diminutive diva and occasional murder victim Ariana Grande has showcased an early glimpse of her new “Side to Side” video co-starring Nicki Minaj.
Directed by “Bang Bang” helmer Hannah Lux Davis, the highly anticipated clip is (according to Ariana’s Instagram) slated to debut tonight after the MTV Video Music Awards. In what we’re sure is a total coincidence and not an act of sensible marketing symmetry, Ariana and Nicki will be performing the Dangerous Woman single during the MSG-set ceremony. There’s not too much info that can be pulled from the early glance (or the other clip Ariana’s offered up) other than “Side to Side” certainly looks like a Hannah Lux Davis joint and there’s a bit of laughter from Nicki. It appears the air conditioner may have busted during filming because clothing seems to be limited.
As your garden variety Arianator can tell you, Ariana Grande is up for a healthy assortment of exciting prizes tonight as MTV sorts out which forever homes their Moonmen will go to. Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Collaboration are three of the five categories Ariana could potentially prove triumphant in. In addition to handing out lovely cable award show souvenirs, this year’s VMAs will include performances from the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce (possibly) and Britney Spears. Plus Kanye West is allowed to do whatever he likes for an extended period of time. Maybe he’ll use that space to try and nudge famous people into getting into Stranger Things on Netflix.
