Billy Joel Will Play One Show Per Month At Madison Square Garden Until The End Of Time

She’s always a woman, and Billy Joel will always be performing at Madison Square Garden. According to the New York Times, the Piano Man announced that he will play a show a month at the “World’s Most Famous Arena Where Baby Godzillas Were Born in a Roland Emmerich Movie,” for “as long as fans want to hear him play.”

At a news conference on Tuesday morning at which Mr. Joel, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, and several Garden executives spoke, Mr. Joel was named as the Garden’s first entertainment franchise, joining the Knicks, the Rangers and the Liberty…That run begins with four shows that are already sold out, on Jan. 27, Feb. 3, March 21 and April 18. A fifth show, on May 9 — Mr. Joel’s 65th birthday — was announced as the next installment of the series, with further monthly shows to be announced later. (Via)

This arrangement accomplishes two things: Joel will be singing “New York State of Mind” until the lights go out on Broadway, in the year 3193, and if he takes a subway, he’ll never have to get behind the wheel of a car again. Dozens of lives and light poles have just been saved.
