Despite appearances, the video above is not just a Funny or Die spoof of a local used car dealership’s TV commercials. It’s also a subtle, clever way for the Black Keys to announce the release of their seventh album, El Camino.
At the conclusion of the video the words ‘The Black Keys. El Camino. December 6’ appear on the screen, which would indicate the record will be released on December 5 in the UK. You can watch the video by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.
There is also a phone number listed on the spoof website, which when called plays a recorded message from The Black Keys themselves.
For the record, I called the number listed on the website — (330) 510-1206 — and left a message on the voicemail in a Southern accent expressing interest in the vehicle if its bed was lined with astroturf. I can’t wait to see if the band gets back to me.
