Once upon a time, Britney Spears appeared on How I Met Your Mother, boosting the ratings of the show back before it had the chance to alienate its entire audience. Since that time, though, Spears has done very little acting, spending her time doing her big Vegas residency and so on. However, Spears is returning to scripted television this year, as she will be appearing on season 2 of the CW’s Jane the Virgin.
Spears broke the news of her appearance on the show via her Twitter account, wherein she stated that Jane the Virgin is one of her favorite shows ever.

She wasn’t the only one who enjoyed the show, as the soapy show built up a very devoted, if relatively small, audience. Gina Rodriguez also won a Golden Globe for her performance as the titular, virginal Jane, although a young actress winning a Golden Globe is never a surprise.
While Spears is no longer the megastar that she was in her glory days, she should still be able to draw some extra eyes to Jane the Virgin. It will also be interesting to see if she plays herself, or actually plays a character. If she does the latter, it would be for the first time since her aforementioned How I Met Your Mother appearance in 2008.
Britney Spears is happy to be on Jane the Virgin. Hopefully you will be happy to see her.
