I don’t know about you, but my sleepovers never looked like the one in the “Slumber Party” music video. Where are the bags of Doritos? Empty Mountain Dew bottles? Pizza boxes? There’s not even an XBox. Instead, Britney Spears and Tinashe wriggle around in a luxurious mansion wearing expensive clothes (not basketball jerseys and jorts), which, to be fair, looks like a lot of fun. Especially when they enter what appears to be the “color run” room. The only time I ever ran at a sleepover was to the kitchen for more Pop-Tarts.
“Slumber Party” is the slinky second single from Britney’s ninth album, Glory, following “Make Me…” The lyrics aren’t exactly subtle — “We use our bodies to make our own videos/Put on our music that makes us go f*cking crazy” (it’s still weird hearing her curse) — but subtly isn’t Brit’s strong suit; catchy hooks are, and “Slumber Party” will make you go “f*cking crazy.” In a good way.
Britney described the music video as having a “younger Eyes Wide Shut theme. So, it’s kind of a little risqué. It’s very sexy, it’s very moody — and it’s fun! It’s fun.” If only teenage me knew he could have a fun sleepover without watching A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.
