Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band Covering Suicide Is Everything

Suicide is a band best known for “Frankie Teardrops,” a terrifying protopunk song about a man who’s fed up with life, so after killing his wife and kids, he commits, well, y’know. “Singer,” if you want to call him that, Alan Vega literally screams on the track, like he’s being stabbed in the back with an icepick. It makes for a great ringtone.

Bruce Springsteen is a long-time Suicide fan, and during his two-year tour behind Wrecking Ball, he’s been covering not “Frankie Teardrops,” but another Suicide song: the slightly less menacing “Dream Baby Dream.” Last night, Springsteen posted a letter on his website, thanking “friends and fans” for “the love and support we’ve received over the past year and a half,” as well as a “Dream Baby Dream” music video, focused on the live footage faces of the concertgoers who attended the tour. It’s a neat concept, and luckily, no one dies.
