Between Veep, Black-Ish, Fleabag, Silicon Valley, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Modern Family, and media darling Atlanta, the competition for Best Comedy Series at the 2016 Critics Choice Awards was pretty stiff last night. All shows deserved to be nominated, but it was Atlanta that was predicted to walk away with the top prize after receiving praise from both fans and critics alike. unfortunately, the predictions failed to hold up as Silicon Valley was awarded best comedy for the second year in a row. Keith Stanfield, known to Atlanta fans as the hiliarious “woke” Darius on the hit show, was not pleased.

Channeling his inner Kanye West, the 25-year-old actor interrupted Silicon Valley executive producer Tom Lassally’s speech to deliver his own. “I want to thank everybody for honoring us in this way. We worked very hard on Silicon Valley. And here we are. Thank you,” Stanfield said before casually walking off the stage. The best part was actress/presenter Leslie Mann attempting to give the Atlanta star the trophy before realizing what just happened and giving it to Lassaly instead. Actually, the best reaction may have come from the guy who plays Richard on Veep.

Lassaly did get to make his speech, however. But not before acknowledging the awkwardness that took place moments before. “Wow. No idea who that was,” Lassally said before giving his speech. For what it’s worth, Atlanta didn’t come up empty-handed as Donald Glover won the Critics Choice award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. About damn time. Community was so overlooked.
