Watch Footage From Dave Grohl’s First Concert With Nirvana

On October 11, 1990, Dave Grohl, who turned 46 today, played with Nirvana live for the first time, after replacing a rotating collection of drummers, including Chad Channing, Aaron Burckhard, and Mudhoney’s Dan Peters. The show was at the North Shore Surf Club (which sounds like somewhere the kids from Beverly Hills 90210 might hang out) in Olympia, Washington, and the trio played 20 songs, five of which were covers by everyone from the Wipers to Devo.

Time has been kind to footage from the show, which you can watch above. It’s music history.
