Eagles Of Death Metal Returned To Paris To Perform For The First Time Since The Terror Attacks

In a incredibly emotional return, Eagles of Death Metal took the stage in Paris last night (Feb. 16), performing their first full set in the city since the November massacre at the Bataclan theatre that left 89 of their fans dead.

Lead singer Jesse Hughes took requests from the crowd at Paris’ L’Olympia venue, playing a range of hits from their discography and also several covers. Watch the band perform the Rolling Stones’ hit “Brown Sugar” up top.

Hughes admitted that he was so nervous about the show that he snapped a tendon in his middle finger. Still, he played on and was clearly more amped up by the crowd than he was frightened.

“Can you not feel this sh*t? Can you not feel this sh*t right now?” he yelled over the screaming crowd before taking requests.

Notably, the concert included EODM co-founder and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme on drums. Homme does not typically tour with the band, but joined them for their return to Paris. Watch him play alongside touring drummer Julian Dorio below:

Hughes signaled his return to France by stirring up controversy, taking on the country’s strict gun-control policies and espousing anti-gun control rhetoric in an interview with the television station iTele.

“I know people will disagree with me… but that night guns made them equal. And I hate it that it’s that way… Until nobody has guns everybody has to have them.”

Whatever side of the gun control debate fans fall on, the Paris crowd was happy to see the band play the show they were originally meant to.
