Notoriously enigmatic R&B star Frank Ocean rarely reveals hints about his various projects to the public. Sure, Ocean’s slating his next album to release this July, but he’s been mum on anything else.

In the last day, however, two arguably tiny bits of news hit the ‘net like tsunamis because they involve Ocean.

1. Ocean recorded part of his new LP at famed London studio Abbey Road, according to a collaborator, French pianist Christophe Chassol. This is what Chassol told Gilles Peterson of BBC:

“Ocean invited me to Abbey Road to record on his album. I asked him how he heard about me. He told me his friend Diplo was listening a lot to [my album] Indiamore, and they started to listen to it, and they were wondering how I was doing the speech harmonization, so he called me. He asked me to do some speech harmonization on a song with him,” Chassol told Peterson. “After a while, it was cool and he was like, ‘yeah, but we have to find another way because you already did it’.”

Chassol then continued to detail the recording process and mentioned that Rick Rubin was also there.

“We start to work on a track and he says, ‘This track is this’ — that car that you can see. He makes me work on a song, and I’m like, ‘Oh this sounds like Pino Donaggio’s score for Blow Out, by Brian De Palma’. I start to work on a song and five minutes later on the Pro Tools screen you have the movie, the score, stretched to fit the song — just to try. I’ve never worked with that much money in music. It’s good sometimes to have money, because you can try things.”

2. A mysterious and empty SoundCloud playlist entitled “States” then hit Frank’s personal account.

Without looking too far into a random playlist, it could be some sort of hint. Ocean’s proved throughout his career that social media is his preferred news distribution tool. Of course, his favorite platform is Tumblr — where he announced the release date of his latest album and allowed people to stream channel ORANGE in full — but this could be another indication as to what the “Pyramids” crooner has in store.
