Frank Ocean Had Two ‘Blonde’ Tracks Out There For Years And No One Knew

For years, we have been waiting for Frank Ocean to release new material. Years! Channel Orange came out in 2012. Do you realize how long ago that was? Dude, “Gangnam Style” came out in 2012. That guy Felix Baumgartner jumped out of a pod in space, Time magazine featured a woman breastfeeding on their cover, and hey, remember how fired up we got about #Kony2012? We spent the following years waiting so intently for a new album from Ocean that it now looks like we missed the forest for the trees. There was evidence of new music by Ocean and we missed it. We should be ashamed of ourselves.

Thanks to the magic of YouTube, two clips of Ocean performing songs that would eventually be included in his recently released album Blonde have been kicking around for a couple years, we just never really noticed. And it was right in front of us the whole time! The clips in question are from a show Ocean performed in Munich, Germany in June 2013. At the show, Ocean played “Ivy” and “Seigfried,” doing so with his trademark casualness. Maybe that’s why it slipped by us? It was also 2013. If that had happened now, it’d be on site such as this one the next morning.

But either way, I suppose if we’re going to take anything away from this it’s that we should be more diligent when it comes to YouTube deep dives.

Just maybe not too diligent. Let’s be honest, YouTube can get real weird, real quick.
