Frank Ocean’s First TV Interview In Four Years Is Shorter Than This Headline

Frank Ocean is not your average artist. The painfully shy crooner would rather continue to live his life as a gifted introvert than a life of paparazzi, and unwanted attention. It’s probably why he didn’t bother submitting Blonde and Endless for Grammy consideration. Screw awards, right? Especially when he’s already nabbed two of those golden gramophones. And while most musicians are oversharing on social media, Ocean carries a very small social media footprint. No Twitter or Instagram. His Facebook is unverified and blank while his Tumblr is rarely updated.

Such reclusiveness makes the singer a pretty hard interview fish to land. The last time Frank Ocean did a televised interview, we were prepping for the 2012 Mayan apocalypse. But the streak was broken Tuesday night at President Obama’s state dinner for Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

After posing with his beautiful mother/date Katonya Breaux, the 28-year-old singer gave an impromptu interview that had nothing to do with his music because it was C-Span. C-Span.

“You can’t think. You just have to do things,” Ocean responded when asked about his choice to wear skateboarding kicks for such an elegant event with dignitaries. And speaking of dignitaries, don’t count of the singer to be out there singing for Hillary Clinton. Ocean said the Democratic presidential candidate would probably have to wait a while before supporting her with a campaign show. “Concerts? Probably not. [Other ways?] Maybe. I don’t know. We’re running out of time, I think. I might have to catch her in four years.”

As for meeting President Obama, Frank said the most important thing for him was congratulating POTUS and asking “if he had fun these last eight years.” I bet the answer to that was a hearty laugh followed by a serious “No.”
