‘Space Jamilton’ Is A Catchy Mash-up For Fans Of ‘Space Jam’ And ‘Hamilton’

Hamilton has captured the zeitgeist like no play in recent memory. People love this rap musical based on the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton. People also love Space Jam, the ‘90s movie about Michael Jordan teaming up with the Looney Tunes, and also Bill Murray and some guy played by Wayne Knight, to defeat aliens in basketball. You would think they have nothing in common, but now, thanks to a YouTube mash-up, they do. Behold; Space Jamilton!

The song, created by a gentleman named Matthew Ahn, has combined the opening song from Hamilton with the titular song from the movie Space Jam. It’s not the most beloved song from Space Jam, because it’s not “I Believe I Can Fly,” but it will do in a pinch. Despite the seeming incongruity of these two songs, they actually work reasonably well together.

Now, there are those who would consider this sacrilegious, owing to their love for Hamilton and/or their nostalgia for Space Jam. So here’s a likely unpopular opinion: Space Jamilton is better than both Space Jam and Hamilton. Space Jam is a very silly, stupid movie that has Shawn Bradley in it, and Hamilton is basically that episode of Saved by the Bell where they do a rap version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, even if you share this opinion, and all evidence says you probably don’t and are very angry right now, you can still enjoy Space Jamilton.
