Jamie Foxx Told Ellen Why He Stunk Up The National Anthem At Mayweather-Pacquiao

Jamie Foxx is a capable singer, but you wouldn’t know that based on his performance of the National Anthem at the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on Saturday night. Foxx’s rendition of the song brought great displeasure from the viewing public. Moments into it, his octave struggle became very real, as his “say-can-you-see” curdled into sour notes and straining squints.

On Ellen, he explained that his “ears had fallen out,” meaning the earpiece connection to his live microphone went dead just as he began the tune. That’s a nightmare for any singer because that means filtering crowd and instrument noise is impossible. Foxx continued the show, but couldn’t quite get his range together.

To prove that he can actually sing, Foxx did some lovely trilling and looping of the notes in front of the Ellen studio audience. His awfully epic tonal flatline at May-Pac will still be etched in our minds forever, though.
