Blossoming Film Critic John Mayer Tweets His New Theory That ‘The Accountant’ Is A ‘Batman’ Movie

Thank goodness John Mayer is recovering nicely from his recent health scare, because aside from the fact that a human being healthy is generally something we can get behind, this also means that he’s free to focus on letting his mind wander and documenting the process on Twitter. He’s shared his theories about gun control and Kanye West’s career before, and now he has a new one:

“Now that we’ve settled it that Die Hard is a Christmas movie, I would like to posit that The Accountant is a Batman movie.

Mayer goes on to explain his thinking, which of course hinges on the fact that Ben Affleck plays the lead in both The Accountant and the recent Batman movies:

Here we go: it’s a Bruce Wayne origin story. We see that he is both trained in fighting and accounting. His father was shot. His trailer/storage space is the first bat-cave. He is beginning to acquire great wealth. His brother will become his arch nemesis.”

He expanded on his theory while responding to Twitter users: “This guy gets it,” he said to a user who wrote, “J.K. Simmons is playing Commissioner Gordon in the new Justice League film and then of course you know his role in The Accountant…” When asked, “Doesn’t a butler figure in,” Mayer answered, “Yes. It’s the British woman on the phone.”

Mayer also shared his thoughts on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, writing that it feels a bit off, but not necessarily in a bad way: “It’s the kind of movie you’d dream that you saw. It has that surreal vibe. Everything is a tick to the left. It’s like the film is running a slight fever.”

Speaking of movie theories, Jordan Peele also has some thoughts about what’s a Christmas movie and what isn’t.
