Watch John Williams Conduct A Portion Of The New ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Score

Despite all the high expectations that accompany Star Wars films, John Williams’ scores are usually one thing we can consistently count on to be fantastic throughout the iconic film series. And it looks like The Force Awakens is keeping that trend going. 60 Minutes teased their upcoming piece on the film with a snippet of John Williams conducting the new, unheard score, and it sounds fantastic.

From the brief examples shown in the clip, the music sounds as big and epic as we’ve come to expect from the man who has soundtracked just about every blockbuster you can think of. Even J.J. Abrams couldn’t avoid being starstruck while watching Williams work.

“This is like momentous, John Williams conducting his ‘Star Wars’ music. As a fan, I can’t even believe I get to be here.”

That didn’t stop Abrams from giving notes to Williams about the way that the score was going to fit into the movie. You can see him talking to the conductor about extending certain sequences in the preview clip.

A full interview with Abrams tackling other aspects of The Force Awakens will premiere during the Dec. 13 episode of 60 Minutes on CBS.
