The death of Prince came with a lot of mourning, but it was also an opportunity for his litany of fans and fellow artists to come together and express love and gratitude for one of the greatest musicians of all-time. However, his death also had real world, practical terms, especially since, according to his sister Tyka Nelson, Prince did not leave a will. This led to people coming out of the woodwork claiming to be relatives of Prince, hoping to get a cut of the $100 million estate. Legal proceedings have begun in the matter of settling Prince’s posthumous affairs, and some of the scheming opportunists looking to cash in on Prince’s death have already been dismissed.

Minnesota judge Kevin Eide has dismissed inheritance claims from 29 different individuals who were attempting to be declared heirs to Prince’s fortune. That is a disheartening number of people to try and take advantage of Prince’s death and get their hands on his estate, presuming none of them were legitimate claimants who have been unfortunately kicked to the curb. On top of that, Judge Eide has ordered six people that Prince’s sister says could be Prince half-siblings or other relatives to undergo genetic testing to confirm this fact.

This certainly makes you long for the days when Prince news was about musicians paying tribute to a fallen icon.
