As the status and star for Justin Bieber rises, especially with his recent music being more mainstream than teen-oriented, he’s having to answer for a lot of his past mistakes. In a interview with Billboard, the “I’ll Show You” singer opened up on a wide range of topics including that invasive nude pic that leaked on the internet earlier in October and his dad’s controversial reaction.
I do feel the photo was an invasion of my privacy. I felt super violated. My dad made light of it, but I don’t think that’s sick and twisted. It was funny. Dads are going to be dads.
While he was quick to defend his dad for his boneheaded social media move, he had to be asked about his mom, the woman who essentially raised him and started his career. The two have been estranged for the past few years while Justin was getting in trouble with the law and flailing professionally. He says that was a self-imposed exile:
“[Our relationship is] pretty non-existing. I was distant because I was ashamed. I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust. She’s living in Hawaii now, so it’s hard, but getting better. She’s an amazing woman and I love her.”
Thankfully, he’s come back healthier and stronger (and with even better music this time around). Purpose will arrive in stores on November 13.
