King Tuff Announces His First New Album In Four Years With The Polished, Surreal ‘Psycho Star’ Video

After a couple years off, King Tuff is making his triumphant return. Kyle Thomas, aka King Tuff, is releasing a new album called The Other, which quickly follows up on the release of a video for the title track, and today he’s shared more music, too. The “Psycho Star” video rambles a bit more toward psych-rock than some of Thomas’ past more folksy work, but the extra polish sounds great, especially paired with a kooky, surreal visual.

This album is his first release since 2014’s Black Moon Spell, and aside from expanding his sound, Thomas also expanded his role, moving into a position behind the boards for this album to self-produce, and enlisting Shawn Everett for mixing purposes. Additionally, there are several other high-profile cameos, including Jenny Lewis on vocals, Ty Segall on drums, Greta Morgan (Springtime Carnivore/The Hush Sound) on vocals, and Mikal Cronin on saxophone.

“I let the songs lead me where they wanted to go, instead of trying to push them into a certain zone,” Thomas said of this new album. “King Tuff was always just supposed to be me. When I started doing this as a teenager, it was whatever I wanted it to be. King Tuff was never supposed to be just one thing. It was supposed to be everything.”
