Lady Gaga sat down with Jamie Lee Curtis as part of PBS’ Variety Studio: Actors on Actors, to discuss her role in this past season’s American Horror Story: Hotel. Gaga performed so well in her role as The Countess that she even earned a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film. The singer turned thespian has always had a theatrical background and has incorporated characters into her live shows, but for her role in Hotel, she got inspiration from an unusual source.

Gaga told Curtis during their interview that in order to research her role for AHS, she studied the suspected murderer from HBO’s The Jinx, Robert Durst (no relation to Fred Durst). “Every day I would watch Robert Durst in The Jinx and his wife Debrah Durst, and I would sort of study the practical nature in which he was devious and evil,” Gaga adds. “He just has this extremely practical way of explaining how he’s going to conceal the fact that he’s dumped a body in a river and kept it in his house and cut up his best friend.”

We’ll be curious to see who Lady Gaga researches for her next role, as she is slated to return to American Horror Story for season six.
