Lana Del Rey Talked To People Who Called Her Album’s Hotline

Ever since Lana Del Rey unveiled the artwork for her latest album, Honeymoon, people have been able to call the number on the side of the StarLine tour bus that Ms. Del Rey sits so wistfully in on the cover. The number took you to the Honeymoon hotline, where, as soon as the album became open for preorders, would play you snippets of songs or poems being recited by Lana or whatever sort of slightly arty and pretentious stuff that is the milieu in which Del Rey works. However, on Wednesday, for at least a little while, you could call into the number and actually talk to Del Rey.

Del Rey posted a glamor shot on Instagram with the caption “Call me. I’m home alone x,” so basically she made a phone sex ad, but did not back that up with any actual phone sex, at least to our knowledge. What she did do is talk to some of her fans, which is gimmicky, but also pretty cool of her, all things considered. Those who couldn’t get through got to hear her recite the poem “Burnt Norton” by T.S. Eliot, which was probably an unsatisfactory consolation prize, but at least she didn’t read those poems that was the inspiration for Cats.

Will Del Rey hop back on the Honeymoon hotline again? Only future coquettish Instagrams can tell, but she is doing an in-person signing at a L.A. Urban Outfitters on Thursday, so you can talk to her in actual human form. Not as kitschy, but probably still pretty cool.
