Lana Del Rey Thinks That Feminism Really Isn’t All That Interesting

The Fader interviewed Lana Del Ray, who has a new album, Ultraviolence, coming out later this month — and as usual, Del Ray displayed a bored, meh demeanor while discussing topics like fame, her music, and feminism. As for the latter, Del Ray has always been a polarizing figure and I don’t think her opinions on feminism are going to change that anytime soon.

“For me, the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept,” she says. “I’m more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what’s going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities. Whenever people bring up feminism, I’m like, god. I’m just not really that interested.”

When pressed, she adds, more illuminatingly, “My idea of a true feminist is a woman who feels free enough to do whatever she wants.” I ask her why she’s always being choked in her videos, and she gives a fitting answer: “I like a little hardcore love.”

What a surprise, another female singer who doesn’t understand the concept of feminism. Feminism isn’t supposed to “interest” you. It’s not doilies or artisanal toast or organic lip fillers, or any other things besides space travel (???) that Lana Del Ray would probably be interested in. It’s a movement advocating equal rights for men and women. That’s it. Sorry if that’s boring. I mean, not “Lana Del Ray” SNL performance boring, but I guess pretty boring.
