Lorde Sang Kanye’s ‘Runaway’ At Coachella And Noted Its Influence On Her Own ‘Liability’

Lorde is an unabashed fan of pop music. The still impossibly young mega-star is clearly a scholar on the machinations of your typical pop song, the better to subvert it just enough to catch the ear of the entire world. So, we’re willing to bet that the Melodrama singer could easily give us the rundown on the greatest pop feud of our time, the Cold War between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. Lorde showed her hand by performing the chorus to Kanye West’s mea culpa/celebration”Runaway” at Coachella over the weekend.

She noted how much the chord progression to her devastating new song “Liability” sounds like Kanye before singing the song’s immortal chorus.

The Yeezy shout-out capped off a very busy weekend for Lorde, who premiered a new song called “Homemade Dynamite” at the fest and performed a few unheard tracks at an intimate show before Coachella. Check out her full performance of “Liability” below and then revisit her arresting performance of the track on Saturday Night Live .
