M.I.A. Claims The Grammys Ripped Her Off

Hey, you guys, if you were planning on stealing ideas from M.I.A., Maya Arulpragasam has a website for YOU.

M.I.A. has taken to Twitter to inform her followers that, this year, she will be “KEEPING A STEAL LOG” on Tumblr to document the many ways she is being ripped off. Her first target: the Grammys.

“MIA VS THE SYSTEM” she writes, with an image comparing her lazer-box stage backdrop from a January show in Australia to the one Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Sting, and Damian and Ziggy Marley played in front of during the Bob Marley tribute at this year’s award show.

“My ideas came from my life,” she writes. “My set was based on Tamil Hindu temple. Not Bob Marley.” She added, “If u wanna see the real thing or get it first, come to a M.I.A. show!” (Via)

Shhhh, no one tell M.I.A. that she basically ripped off Wreckx-n-Effect’s “Rump Shaker” for the “Paper Planes” chorus, but gave A-Plus & Co. no credit. Also, eating truffle fries? Totally MY idea. I’m going to start a Tumblr, too: THIS GUY VS. MIA VS. THE SYSTEM. Or is that too positive? Anyway, compare the performances below.
