M.I.A. And Diplo Team Up For The First Time In Eight Years On ‘Bird Song’ Remix

Obviously, M.I.A. and Diplo had to separate their musical careers for a bit once they separated in real life. But this remix of her track “Bird Song” is a great reminder of just how on it the two were when they worked together.

And we’re not just speculating that Diplo makes this M.I.A. track better. She already released a great version of the song produced by Blaqstarr after M.I.A.’s label allegedly blocked the release of the Diplo version. But it seems everything has been sorted out, because the “Bird Song” remix is here and it’s spectacular. It’s the two most prominent cross-cultural soundsmashers in the world bringing their A-game. At the very least, it’s the slappingest kazoo-based song we’ve heard since the Kazoo for You remix.

In addition to the new song, M.I.A. also revealed the tracklist of her upcoming album A.I.M. in an Instagram post. Apparently, the Diplo version of “Bird Song”made the cut along with the Blaqstarr original. The album will also feature collaborations with Zayn Malik, Dexta Daps and Skrillex (a.k.a. Diplo’s partner-in-crime on the Jack Ü project). M.I.A. decided to give her single “Borders” pride of place, whether the VMAs agree or not.

A.I.M. drops on September 9 via Interscope.
