The Wild Are The Latest Minnesota Sports Team To Pay Homage To Prince

The Minnesota Wild will host the Dallas Stars in a must-win Game 6 on Sunday afternoon. It’s the Wild’s first home game since Prince passed away on Thursday, and unsurprisingly, the team has something special planned to honor Minnesota’s favorite son.

Like a lot of teams do when they’re in the postseason, the Wild are going to give away free shirts to those in attendance at the Xcel Energy Center on Sunday to create a white out. There are two areas, though, where it looks like there either won’t be shirts or fans will be given something else to wear. One area is behind one of the benches, and the lack of shirts forms the state of Minnesota. Behind the other bench, the lack of shirts forms Prince’s famous “Love Symbol.”

The Wild already paid tribute to Prince a little more subtly when they made their Twitter avatar purple and sent out a tweet on the day he passed away. They joined Minnesota’s other major sports teams – namely the Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, and Lynx – in doing things on their Twitter accounts to remember Prince. Additionally, the Wild joined the Twins in doing things in their stadiums to honor the seven-time Grammy winner – Minnesota’s baseball team lit their stadium purple on Thursday.

We have no idea if the Wild are going to put shirts that match everyone else’s in these seats, if people sitting here will get special shirts, or if those in these seats will just wear whatever they want. Hopefully they keep these shapes together, though, because this is a creative and awesome way to remember Prince.
