Missy Elliott And Fall Out Boy Take On The Iconic ‘Ghostbusters’ Theme Song

The new Ghostbusters movie drops in a few weeks, so it was only a matter of time before we got our first taste of the official theme song. “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)” comes courtesy of Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott, putting their spin on the Ray Parker, Jr. classic from 1984.

It keeps the basic melody of the original, but everyone involved makes the song their own, which is all you can ask for. Missy continues to show why she deserves all of the props coming her way this summer, as she can rap about anything. Seriously. It wouldn’t be a surprise if she picked up a menu from a restaurant and turned it into a catchy 16-bars.

While the song isn’t as infectious as its predecessor — let’s be honest, nothing is — it’s fun and seems to fit the tone and energy of the movie if the trailers are any indication. Plus, it shows that even after 30 years, busting still makes everyone feel good.

This isn’t the first time the Ghostbusters theme has been reinterpreted or even the first time someone rapped over it. For 1989’s Ghostbusters II, RUN-DMC  faced the same herculean task of remixing a pop culture staple.

Ultimately, what matters is that Huey Lewis and the News will not be suing Missy or Fall Out Boy and that you go see Ghostbusters in theaters on July 15.
