Hear My Morning Jacket's Touching Tribute To Lou Reed With Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis

My Morning Jacket has recorded some very good albums and even better original songs, but if they decided to only do covers from now on, you’d get no complaints from this guy. Their version of the Band’s “It Makes No Difference” is arguably better than the original, and the original is one of the most devastatingly effective songs in rock history, and they’ve been known to take the Velvet Underground’s “Oh! Sweet Nuthin’” out for a spin, too.

Last night, at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California, that’s exactly what they did, but with a heavy heart, having heard about Lou Reed’s untimely passing only a few hours earlier. It’s a more stripped down affair than the original, without the use of electric guitar, but with Young’s sad moans on the harmonica and backup vocals from Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis, and more. It’s not nothing; it’s EVERYTHING.
