Jenny Lewis And Nice As F*ck Get Political In Their ‘Guns’ Video

The new supergroup featuring Jenny Lewis, and also Erika Forster and Tennessee Thomas, isn’t in it for the money. Otherwise, they wouldn’t call themselves Nice as F*ck. However, they haven’t let their non-family friendly name hold them back, because they have performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and they have now released the second video from their debut self-titled album. The video for “Guns” is as political as the song itself is, and as Nick as F*ck are.

The video is shot in a grainy, old home movie style, which is cool and interesting, but is not the main takeaway from the video. This is a song that repeats the phrase “I don’t want to be afraid, put your guns away” over and over after all. The band wear army jackets and berets often, but they also wear t-shirts that say “Give a Damn” and incorporate a big, lit up peace sign into their live performances. There is a lot of footage of the band playing in the video, including from their debut performance at a Bernie Sanders rally. Yes, a Bernie Sanders rally is involved in the video. Nice as F*ck make no bones about their political leanings.

It’s a very pretty song, which may not be the best way to discuss a song that’s about the serious topic of gun violence. It’s also a cool video. Their politics may be at the forefront, but Nice as F*ck are also impressive as a band.
