Prince’s intimate “Piano And A Microphone” shows are ripe for covers. You’d expect The Purple One to whip out a few of his favorites when he isn’t beholden to an entire arena waiting for “Purple Rain.” Still, when Prince decides to throw out a cover of the late David Bowie‘s “Heroes”, the world sits up and pays attention.
The cover came during one of two sets Prince played in Toronto last night. Sprinkled in among his own hits and rarities (consider me ultra-bummed out that I wasn’t there to hear him play “Starfish and Coffee”), Prince found time to put his spin on Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You”, Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy”, Madhouse’s “Four”, Bill Wither’s “Use Me” and Bob Marley’s “Waiting In Vain.” Check out a snippet of the latter below:
All told, Prince played an astounding 57 songs between his two sets last night. Check out the full setlist via Consequence of Sound and get jealous.
