Ray Parker Jr. Admits He Likes The ‘Ghostbusters’ Theme ‘The Old Way’

When it comes to the new reboot of Ghostbusters, things feel similar to the 1984 original, but they are just different enough to make the new movie intriguing, or, if you are of a certain frame of mind, infuriating. The new movie, which comes out July 15, features four women stepping into the role of the original, all-male Ghostbusters. Also, Rick Moranis isn’t in the new one. On top of everything else, the new film comes with an updated version of the classic Ghostbusters theme song. The new version is done by Fall Out Boy, with a rap break from Missy Elliott, and some people aren’t into it. One of those people is the performer of the original Ghostbusters theme, Ray Parker Jr.

To be fair, Parker is very diplomatic about the whole thing, and doesn’t really say anything too negative about Fall Out Boy’s song. He calls it “interesting,” before adding, “I’m not gonna say whether it’s good or bad. I’m just gonna say maybe I’m an old guy now and I like it the old way.”

That sounds like a pretty genial way of saying he doesn’t like the cover of his song. Parker also said, “I wish they had called me to maybe work with some of the younger guys and help them get a direction,” which seems to support that idea. Hey, at least Parker says he is happy to see an all-female crew out there busting ghosts. Parker may be an old guy, but evidently bustin’ still makes him feel good, regardless of which gender is doing said bustin’.
