Flea Of The Red Hot Chili Peppers Responds To Criticism Of The Band’s Super Bowl Halftime Performance

If you watched the Super Bowl, you probably saw Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers during halftime, and it was OK, unlike the Law and Order: SVU inspired game. If you haven’t heard by now, RHCP didn’t technically play their instruments during the Super Bowl halftime show. Via Bleacher Report:

The Red Hot Chili Peppers joined Bruno Mars for the halftime show of Super Bowl XLVIII, and the performances were generally met with positive reviews.

The legendary alternative rock band is known for putting on a show for its fans, but it would appear that freedom of movement and top-notch theatrics called for some trickerythe Chili Peppers did not even plug in their guitars.

It’s not really hard to believe that during one of the biggest plastic events of the year that everyone was pretending. One fan even cared enough to tweet at Flea about the incident.

If you know anything about music, you could probably tell they were playing to a track, although the singing was genuine (I think?). You get an ear for these sorts of things. Also, if you play music, you know the first thing you do when you perform is plug in your instruments. It was immediately obvious to me, but I didn’t think much of it because the backing track was most likely a fail-safe. I mean, no one wants the disastrous repeat of last years power outage.
