Rihanna And Kendrick Lamar Will Headline The Free 2016 Global Citizen Festival

The fifth iteration of the Global Citizen Festival — a free fest held on the Great Lawn of Central Park in New York — will have an absolutely stacked lineup for 2016. The event’s lineup mirrors its message of worldwide unity by having a little something for everyone. Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Metallica, Major Lazer, and Selena Gomez are some of the big names to perform at the music festival.

The festival aims to “harness actions from millions of Global Citizens around the world to hold world leaders accountable to the progress made toward achieving the Global Goals set out by the United Nations.” It does that by requiring attendees to tweet, sign petitions and write messages to world leaders pushing for them to advance education initiatives and other causes. The fest is curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and he is listed as a “special guest” of the event along with Eddie Vedder, Usher, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), Ellie Goulding and Yandel.

“Since 2012, more than six million actions from Global Citizens have led world leaders to enact policy changes and commit significant resources to issues of girls and women’s equality, education, health, water and sanitation, environment, finance and innovation, and food and hunger,” the festival said in a statement.

While the fest is free, a small number of VIP tickets will be available on Ticketmaster starting on July 28. The fest itself goes down on Sept. 24 — the same day as Chance The Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring Day in Chicago — and will be livestreamed via Global Citizen’s YouTube channel.
