After Beyonce’s already legendary performance hit the VMA stage this past Sunday, everything else simply became background noise. However, we have since been able to all catch our breath, and now, the spotlight is shining on another Knowles sister.
Bey’s younger sis and star in her own right, Solange, is now the new face of Michael Kors’ first ever street style campaign. The new campaign, which is interactive in nature, features “four of [Michael Kors’] favorite trendsetters,” yet is led with 30-year-old Knowles. Entitled, The Walk, this project highlights Solange with still imagery captured by renowned Canadian photographer, Tommy Ton along with a 43-second visual directed by Wednesday Agency. The video seamlessly captures Solange’s inherent chicness and confident aesthetic whilst donning apparel from Michael Kors’ latest ready-to-wear collection.
Strutting around New York City’s iconic Village neighborhoods (Greenwich and West to be exact), it’s evident why the “Losing You” artist was chosen as the campaign’s leading lady. As Kors himself put it, “Solange is strong and passionate and not afraid to share her opinion with the world — and that type of confidence always makes an impact,” continuing with, “She’s a true trendsetter. I love how she takes some of our pieces and makes them her own.”
Though Solange (in my not so humble opinion) certainly dominates The Walk, the other featured trendsetters who encapsulate the campaign’s motif of, “The sidewalk is your runway” are Nina Agdal, Soo Joo Park and Princess Olympia of Greece.
Yet beyond these celebrity fashionistas, the campaign encourages customers to highlight their own style using the hashtag #SidewalkSpotted and perhaps be featured on The Walk’s webpage. While it’s no easy feat to slay alongside the likes of Ms. Knowles, as I’m sure some great philosopher once said, with the right Instagram filter, anything is possible.
