St. Vincent (real name Annie Clark) and Carrie Brownstein are quite the duo: They collaborated on those strange interview videos promoting St. Vincent’s album Masseduction last year, Clark made a guest appearance on Brownstein and Fred Armisen’s Portlandia, and they even used to date. Although they’re no longer romantically involved, there’s no love lost between the two, as St. Vincent recently posted a video of her performing “Modern Girl,” from Sleater-Kinney’s 2005 album The Woods, on acoustic guitar.
“Pre-show Sleater-Kinney warm up,” Clark captioned the video. “Such a great song!”
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Clark wielding an acoustic guitar in recent days, since she just went unplugged for an NPR Tiny Desk performance. As for Brownstein, she’s pretty darn busy at the moment: She’s in the midst of promoting the final season of Portlandia, she’s working on adapting her 2015 book Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl into a new TV show, and she says that Sleater-Kinney is back in the studio working on the follow-up to their 2015 record, No Cities to Love.
Watch the clip of Clark playing “Modern Girl” above, and read our recent interview with Sleater-Kinney’s Janet Weiss, in which she talks about Portlandia and making mistakes, here.
