Tegan and Sara started off in the late 1990s, early 2000s as a fairly unsuspecting indie rock band before expanding and exploding their sound into something more mainstream, more electro-pop, though no less personal, on their most recent album, Heartthrob (which is great, by the way). Last night, they wonderfully duplicated the record’s shiny sound during an on-stage performance of the pulsating “Closer” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
A little more of this, and a lot less of this, and maybe top-40 radio still has a chance.
Serious question: if you attend JKL, do the bands play a full show? They don’t do one song like on Conan, Letterman, etc, right?
I attended a taping of Fallon a few years ago and the band was Iron and Wine. They played a song prior to the taping, maybe a sound check. Then they played the aired version of the song. After the show was over, they played ANOTHER song that could be viewed on the website or something. Needless to say, as someone who is not a fan of their music, it was terrible.
As far as the way it works on other shows, who knows.
I went to one taping of JKL a few years ago now and the artists do like a mini set of like 5 songs and I believe they air 1 or 2 of them. From what I recall.
I’m not saying they’re not a fine band, but come on, pop music was fine before them, it’ll be fine after them.
And people have been bitching about pop music being shitty since it started, nothing’s going to change that.
WORD.
YES YES YES
I love this song. It makes me want to jazzercise.
