The Cure Get Their Own Uncanny Comic Book Cover Mockups

Here’s something that’s relevant to all my interests… my sad, sad interests. Artist Butcher Billy has turned songs by The Cure into awesome comic book covers. In a move that we’re sure Robert Smith would love, Billy inserted the Cure frontman into artwork that would be right at home on the cover of old, pulpy horror comics for his “Tales from the Smith” series.

All the classics are represented: “Pictures of You,” “Killing An Arab,” (my personal fave) “Boys Don’t Cry” and others all get the schlocky, spooky treatment. There’s even an Evil Dead crossover. Check out a few of the highlights below:

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured Billy on Uproxx, and this series isn’t exactly out-of-character. Previously, the artist made headlines for his New Wave/Post-Punk Super Friends series, with icons like Morrissey and Ian Curtis re-imagined as comic book superheroes. Butcher’s “8-Bit Smiths” series is worth a look, too, if only for this awesome Mega Man mashup.

Robert Smith has been busy, as well. When he’s not serving as the inspiration for comic book covers, he’s creating excellent remixes of tracks by fellow sadboy titans Ride.
