The Voice, the sole singing competition show standing now that both American Idol and The X Factor are RIP, had its season finale Tuesday. While the original talk predicted that Voice judge Christina Aguilera would be singing with a Whitney Houston hologram, that plan was axed, which is probably for the best, on account of the fact people hate holograms. However, despite the lack of an uncanny approximation of a deceased singer, it was still a night that had plenty of music stars in the flesh.

Aguilera did take the stage, but it was with Ariana Grande, who performed a medley of songs from her recent release Dangerous Woman. So at least people got to see Aguilera on stage, along with about a million dudes and ladies backup dancing. Meanwhile, Sia showed up, bringing along Maddie Ziegler for a performance of “Cheap Thrills.” Then, Zayn, still trying to make a go of it after leaving One Direction, performed “Like I Would” with an assist from a ton of lasers.

It was a big, opulent night featuring some of the biggest pop stars today performing. Which, you know, kind of overshadows the fact that The Voice is a singing competition that ostensibly names a new superstar every season. This year’s winner: the actress from the 1991 movie Curly Sue!

Yes, for real.

But she’s pretty good so, congrats!
