A week ago, New York pop/soul trio Thirdstory — who you might recognize as Chance The Rapper’s backing vocalists from his most recent tour — released the first single from their debut album Cold Heart in the form of an acoustic version for “Still In Love.” Along with the single came a performance video that interestingly spent its final seconds building an unexpected narrative, depicting an unfamiliar man sitting up in bed next to a women, then regretfully putting his head in his hands.

Finally, the mysteriousness can be put to rest, as today, we’re happy to be exclusively premiering the official music video for the full-band version of “Still In Love,” which serves as a prequel to the mysterious moment that concluded part one. Directed by Austin Winchell (known for A$AP Rocky’s “RAF” video), the video provides a backstory for the couple, spanning from their first meeting to moments of passion to, ultimately, moments of struggle. It’s a beautifully composed video that perfectly compliments the story and themes of the track, one of those clips that will instantly be evoked every time you listen to it. Check it out above.

“We wanted to make this video a narrative that really highlights what the song is about — falling in love, that love changing, not knowing how to cope, and figuring out how to move on,” the trio said in an email. “A lot of people go through things like that, and working with Austin Winchell again, who directed our ‘G-Train’ feat Pusha T music video, we think he captured that emotion super well. The second version of the song is the same. The energy in this version depicts a different perspective than the acoustic somber feeling given in the acoustic arrangement. We played a lot of the instruments. Bass, guitar, piano, vocal layers.”

Cold Heart is out 3/9. Check out all of Thirdstory’s upcoming tour dates over on their website, where the record will also be available for pre-order starting tomorrow.
